Not To Be Missed

"Recently, there has been an avalanche of Stanley Turrentine reissues hitting the market, many of which I had never heard before. It seems that T Time was recorded and released just a few years before he died then suffered the same oblivion that so much good but obscure music is fated to share. Most fans recall that Turrentine went through what I consider to be an awful flirtation with disco shortly after his CTI years. It was at that point that I lost interest. Imagine my surprise to discover that he had actually returned to his roots before leaving a void in the world of jazz.

Long-time fans who buy T Time will notice right away that they have heard many of these before. But there is something about how they are redone that makes the tunes fresh, exciting and vital. I like the entire album, but in my opinion, Impressions is the cut that makes this CD a must-have. It just smokes! Other outstanding pieces include his signature Don't Mess With Mister T, the languid I Haven't Got Anything Better To Do, and the soulful Side Steppin'.

Though T Time has the feel of a budget release because of the briefest of liner notes, sound quality is excellent. If you are a fan of Stanley Turrentine, particular of his earlier style, you won't be disappointed by this. Get it while its still available."
Excellent late recording by MR. Turrentine

"Stanley's big fat sexy sax sound is never moreso than here on one of his later recordings, only a few years before his passing. This is an excellent album. I have recordings of him playing at different points in his career and this one really highlights his sound even more than most earlier excellent recordings. Frankly, I pull this one out time and again. It really plays to his voice. The band is excellent. I particularly like the track "I Haven't Got Anything Better To Do". A late night track if ever there was one."
