Progressive music that will lead you on an emotional roller
Irishking | Cherry Hil, NJ | 08/13/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"What is considered good music? The answer to that question depends on whom you ask. Everyone is going to have a different opinion about what sounds they connect with. For me, music is a form of art and it should be treated that way. Spleen Arcana's debut, "The Field Where She Died" covers the progressive art rock genre to the tee. It is five songs chock full of harmonizing vocals and varied (and good) use of piano, guitar; both acoustic and electric. There are times it seems where I noticed that a drum machine may be in use, but that was minimal and did not detract from the music whatsoever. Even so, the use of percussion complementing the piano in a couple of the songs, really is quite remarkable and provided a nice ambiance. From there, songs such as "A Kind of Heaven" builds to a crescendo of flailing guitars, keys, and what appears to be a choir.

Overall, Spleen Arcana's debut, "The Field Where She Died," offers progressive rock listeners a varied, complex and emotional piece of music. While progressive music is not for everyone, this piece of art should appeal to anyone who is a fan of rock, and those who are looking for something other than the run of the mill.
