CD Reviews

"I felt the same as the previous review when I first purchased this cd, but when played at random with a few thousand other favourite tracks, I found a few interesting jewels in here.

I'd like to rate it slightly higher (3.5 - 4 stars) but all up as an album, it doesn't come together like others from Spiderbait. If a few songs were released as singles they would have done much better.

In general the overall sound is flatter and doesn't come together like other albums such as "Tonight Alright", "Grand Slam" and "Ivy & The Big Apples" (which seem to be the most popular). In defence of Spiderbait, most of this album was recorded at Whitt's house and doesn't sound like it has had much time in production.

This album needs to be on stage in a live gig and some songs that would be good on stage just don't belong on the cd (a couple of tracks, like "Pack It Up" and "The Last One" could even be dropped from the album).

Tracks that stand out for me are "Rumble In The Tummy" (has a Prodigy - Fat Of The Land type sound and a few Apollo 440 like fills), "Bo Bo" (nice deep, grabbin' beat) and "A*se Huggin' Pants" (that beat and Janet singing that title! ... call me shallow). "Six Bar Central" has a Sonic Animation / Chemical Brothers type of sound to it and "Vilas" and "Ballad Of Witby Farm" are kinda cool.

Don't buy this cd as an introduction to Spiderbait, you would probably like the other albums mentioned earlier better. If mine was lost or damaged, I would replace it (I'm addicted to a couple of tracks that I'd really miss)"
In a 'funk' with this one...

"I am a BIG fan of Spiderbait (see my other reviews), however no matter how many times I have listened to this one, I just can't get into it as much as their previous gems ('Grand Slam', 'Ivy and the Big Apples'). I always give all artists some leeway on any new CD, especially alt acts as they are trying new things all the time (god forbid we get the same CD every year!). The result on this one was a handful of great new tunes - which sounded very much ones on 'Grand Slam', and a lot of pointless tunes that seemed to go nowhere. This is for serious fans of the band only, or fans of techno-alt, which most of the songs tend to be on this one. Although the CD has some 'trademark' Spiderbait raw-grungy and poppy-alt, the rest has something I really can't describe very well - it all just seemed very repetitive. Spiderbait has made some of my all time favorite songs, and I was just generally disappointed that there was just no shine to Wally Funk for me."
