Synopsis

Album Description
Japan's SPEEDOMETER come correct with a lush, cinematic take on downtempo with their debut US release, Private. Japanese acts such as DJ Krush, Boom Boom Satellites and Satoshi Tomiie are currently making inroads into what has traditionally been a Euro/American centered form of music, and SPEEDOMETER looks to be next in line. The cinematic musicality of Private will undoubtedly draw comparisons to Western acts such as Zero 7, yet there is no denying the dark, soulful and textured feel that has become the signature of forward thinking Japanese electronic acts.

CD Reviews

Spacey. Smooth. Delicious. Creative.
Noah Minoru | San Francisco, CA | 12/17/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you're into Kruder & Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation, or DJ Shadow, but would like to change it up a bit, BUY THIS CD.
In contrast to Tourist N.B., speedometer.'s first CD, Private is surprisingly polished though still keeps the funkiness which almost borders on cheesy. However, don't let that scare you away; unlike all those generic trance/downtempo remixes (i.e. Ministry of Sound, [insert any season or "Ibiza"] Chillout) that seem to be everywhere these days, this album is very innovative and ORIGINAL, perfect for those late night chill out parties for those with open minds."

"speedometer does a nice job of blending these tracks into one smooth mix, spiced up with a few nice, kind of funky beats. excellent example of good chilled out downtempo music with some hints of world culture in it. excellent if you like thievery corporation and lemon jelly. not only can you chill out comfortably with this cd but its pretty cool to cruise with. definitely recommened if your lookin for something new in the area of electronic downtempo."
