Synopsis

Album Description
Soundtrack to the 2009 Nickelodeon TV movie. Spectacular! stars notable cast members such as Nickelodeon's own Victoria Justice from Zoey 101, Greg Germann, known for his role as Fish on Ally McBeal, and Tammin Sursok who plays Colleen on the #1daytime soap opera Young & The Restless. Spectacular! is also the breakout performance from newcomer Nolan Funk who plays the lead role of Nikko, a budding Rock star who somehow ends up in the world of competitive Show Choir. Spectacular's 10 original songs are written by hit - making songwriters Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. Gerrard has written hits for Kelly Clarkson, Nick Carter and Hilary Duff and contributed songs to High School Musical, Cheetah Girls and Hannah Montana. Robbie Nevil co-wrote the theme song for Hannah Montana as well as songs for High School Musical.

CD Reviews

A Weak HSM Copycat with Unmemorable Songs
Mediaman | USA | 02/26/2009
(2 out of 5 stars)

"This movie tried to recreate the High School Musical success, but falls so short with songs that for the most part you can't remember even after repeated listening (with the exception of "Everything Can Change," which is the one decent tune). This is the edgy Nickelodeon-style high school, with the rebellious teen boy trying to do his own thing, only to learn that he can be himself while singing with show choir! A silly plot and really weak songs.

Parents of young children should even have some concerns about a couple of the wild-boy's tunes that appear to encourage rebellion. But if your kids are watching Spongebob or the Wolf Brothers or other Nick shows, you either already choose to accept that theme as entertainment or you are blind to the messages being preached by the MTV-sister network.

Most amusing are the last two tracks on the CD--the show choir versions of hits like "Eye of the Tiger." It was nice that they included them, but by including decent old hit songs it makes the new music written for this movie sound even worse. Namely, it's much less than spectacular."
