"Hey wow the Soviettes are really really good. You could say they play poppy punk, but that doesn't really do the music justice. It's fast, loud, fun, sneering, confident... makes you smile. How do they do it? Well, for starters, they're great musicians. Solid guitar chops, nice distortion effects, strong drum beats, and it's all really tight. All four members (three women, with a guy on drums) sing on the record (but the women do 99% of the singing), and they're at their best when several of them are shouting at once. And I mean shouting in a good way - they create tuneful harmonies laced with punk rock attitude. Just listen to "Matt's Song" and you'll know what I mean. Great lyrics, too.The Soviettes LP plays like a snapshot of a well-rehearsed live band. The recording, mixing, and mastering are just right, giving the album a full, rich sound. Turn it up loud. The Soviettes are simply smarter and better than most bands out there. Leo Kottke, Prince, The Soviettes ... Minnesota's finest."

"As a recent transplant to Minneapolis, I went looking for some local music to digest. I sampled The Soviettes in the store, and knew I had to buy it. Call them a girl band if you want, but that doesn't make them any less credible than any other punk/rock band out there. The songs are fast, tight, and have lyrics that most other bands would [be eager] for. My personal favorite song on the disc is Undeliverable, which touches the heart even as it rocks. The Soviettes live up to the roots of punk with plenty of anti-establishment statements, from a couple open letters to President Bush and even a catchy song about how corporate interests are destroying rock.Listen to the Soviettes, support local music wherever you are, and have fun."

"Wow! I saw the Soviettes get a favorable review in the "end of the year" issue of City Pages (IIRC), and figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did! Great rock/punk music with an attitude. It hasn't left my CD player for months."
