CD Reviews

Superb Band Toiling in Relative Obscurity
David J. Clark | Carlisle, PA | 11/30/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a superb disc from top to bottom...well-crafted contemporary Rock n' Roll which has been largely ignored by the music industry...how long can bands of this caliber continue to sustain themselves devoid of airplay? It's a sad state of affairs when TSOOL, and other tight acts, like the Libertines, Stereophonics, Alkaline Trio, etc. can't crack the airwaves while other talentless, music industry-created crap is jammed down our throats (use your imagination...insert poseur act of your choice here...). Origin I is a great disc...it seems the only way these guys and others like them will survive is through good reviews and aggressive word-of-mouth campaigns...enjoy the music."
Another very good Soundtrack Of Our Lives album - unfortunat

""Origin Vol. 1" should've learned from "Behind The Music"'s flaws, but they somehow manages to repeat the same mistakes. It's basically the exact same style just with different songs. And, once again, all the songs sound pretty much the same. Ebbot Lundberg is a decent singer, but he could definitely improve. He has a rough sounding voice which relatively fits the band's style. The lyrics aren't that interesting, but I don't think that was the intent of the album. It's essentially an album to rock out to. Like "Behind The Music", "Origin Vol. 1" has some standout tracks - these are "Believe I've Found", the hit "Bigtime", "Mother One Track Mind", "Transcendental Suicide" and "Heading For a Breakdown" (pretty much the first 5 songs). Unfortunately, unlike their previous album, not all of the songs are good here. The quality of these first five, though, definitely makes up for that. If you're a fan of garage rock or the band, you'll probably like this a lot. Recommended!

Highlights include:

"Believe I've Found"

"Transcendental Suicide"

"Bigtime"

"Heading For A Breakdown"

"Mother One Track Mind"

"Midnight Children" (kind of)

"Lone Summer Dream"

"Wheels Of Boredom"

"Borderline"

"Song For The Others" (sort of)"
