"This CD left a bad taste in my mouth.
Trying to judge this CD on it's own merit, without thinking about 93 'TIL INFINITY, is like watching EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE without thinking of the first three STAR WARS movies. Or listening to THE LOVE MOVEMENT without thinking of the first three Tribe Called Quest albums.
Seven years after creating such an era-defining album, they come back with an album so full of thug and playa pandering attempts. Now even though they chased skins in their early work, this time it's accompanied by E-40/Too Short style production that does no fit them at all. For God's sake, there's even a track that sounds like Mannie Fresh hooked it up in a couple of minutes ("That Ain't Life"). Now aside from the weak attempts at Primo/Alchemist sample-chopping ("Danglin'") and the Evidence produced "Sound Science", the only song on the entire album that even remotely comes close to the 93 'TIL era is "Medication". And as tight as that song is, it's NOT worth your hard earned money.
When the Souls of Mischief came on the scene, they were considered an alternative to the O.G. thugged out hip-hop that was prevailant at the time. Now, with thugged out hip-hop at an all-time high, they sound no different from anyone else. And that is a slap in the face of a lot of Hiero fans that hung on for all those years.
There is a reason why they are your fans, guys."

No more comparisons to '93 til infinity.... please!

"Souls of Mischief, along with Casual, was the first hip-hop I was exposed to. Over the last 8 years, the Hiero crew has had a roller-coaster journey of poorly produced (No Man's Land) and uncohesive (3rd Eye Vision) albums. Everyone seems to want another "No Need for Alarm," or "93 til Infinity," but I'm satisfied with Souls' latest album, as well as the innovative "Deltron 3030." The production on this album is light years ahead of previous Souls' offerings. As usual, the rhymes are sick... it's nice to see some production up to par with the lyrical skill. A definate purchase."

A different flavor then what might be expected...

""Souls fell off, this is no 93 till infinity man!"No it's not 93 til Infinity...That was 7 years ago and SOM have matured a lot since then. Some fans might find this album to be a little bit on the "Thuggish" side.. (well at least for a SOM album) but it definatly has a smartness to it.As for the songs...Things get heated around track 3 with "Interrogation" featuring a nice appearnce by both Pep Love and Casual. A definate bumper.The fast paced "Last Night" is one of my favorite tracks on the album. Again, it's a lot different then they're previous sounding stuff, but don't sleep on it just because it's not 93 till.Mama Knows Best featuring Mystic and George Clinton is probably the most accesible track. Sweet melodic sounding Mystic delivers a nice chorus to compliment the flow of the track.Sound Science with Evidence of Dialalted Peoples has a super-fresh beat and really compliments the later, more mellow sounding tracks near the end.The last two tracks are pretty smooth and tie up the album nicely....In my opinion, this is not an album where you should just pick out 3 or 4 tracks to listen to... you must listen to the whole album to get a general feel and appreciation for it.I'd rank it just a bit behind 93 Til, but not by much."
