Lacks a little something

"I am a huge Juliana Hatfield fan, and have been for nearly 10 years. However, this album dissapoints me a little. The three girls are so talented, and I was expecting so much more from this...but it really lacks, IMO.

There just is hardly any energy here...especially from old Jules. I want the Juliana that sings from her gut. I want the Juliana that rips a good solo. But in this CD, there's just no emotion...it sounds so programmed.

Now, this is in no way a diss to any of these ladies...I love all three of them. BUt I just expected more from a trio of rockin' ladies of this quality.

Still, there are some very enjoyable tracks on here. Feel It and Neccesito stick out, IMO.

This albums to me needs a little more energy, a little more polish, and then it would be fantastic. I know these three can do better.

Still, I give it 3 stars because the tracks are catchy enough, and it is a fun album. I just think these three could do better."

"juliana hatfield has been my favorite artist since i was in a training bra. she's not sold out once... it's not in her character. she's carried five bands to stardom just in time to carry on elsewhere modestly. talentless bimbettes?? me and the donnas were probably all sitting in our rooms idolizing juliana at the same time... in our training bras. this album was, as always, rockin'. it's as if they sold their souls to the devil to rock so well:0)"

"Another great album by Juliana Hatfield, this time with old Blake Babies hand Freda Love Smith and a new addition in Heidi Gluck. Every track on this album is listenable and sounds great.

As for the 'talentless bimbettes' comment, Juliana Hatfield was ripping up the alternative music world while the Donnas were still in elementary school (back when the term "alternative music" actually meant something). She has more rock cred in her toenail than those pretenders could ever aspire to."

"Juliana Hatfield began her solo career with an album of jangly indie-pop music, 1992's "Hey Babe". As time passed, her sound developed more of an edge, more arrangements, and more density, really culminating with the release of a pair of albums in 2000, the introverted and delicate "Beautiful Creature" and the aggressive and direct "Total System Failure".

After a couple studio sessions and assembling a "best of" album (which, oddly enough, was largely unreleased material), Hatfield returned, this time with a band featuring Heidi Gluck of the Pieces on bass and Freda Love, her old bandmate in the Blake Babies, on drums.

The album represents a return to the jangly pop of "Hey Babe", and is almost a logical successor to that, but adds both a maturity and a depth borne of confidence, particularly in the vocals. The arrangements are significantly thinner, adding an openness that's been missing from Hatfield's music. And the music is catchy, to say the least], recalling the Velvet Underground's "Loaded" in many senses.

Standouts cover a lot of moods-- from jangly pop ("Feel It", "The Prettiest Girl") to electric pop (standout "Necessito") to countryish acoustic pieces ("You Don't Know", also featuring a fantastic feedback-driven solo from Hatfield) to a blast of a cover of old blues singer Robert Johnson's "Malted Milk".

But in the end, while its a lot of fun, its a bit too pop, a bit too sparse, a bit too polite. It's a good record, but its lacking in something."

Sneakers and Tube Tops...Donuts and Beer...

"Maybe that's a stupid way of saying it, but as a Juliana Hatfield/Blake Babies fan, I feel that "Feel It" is a nice transitional album for these 3 talented ladies. Some Girls is a great detour and a handy cd to have in your collection, if you are a fan of Hatfield or Freda Boner, or any of their respective bands. Tracks that really stand out are "Prettiest Girl","Malted Milk" and "The Getaway," which I recently heard while shopping in the GAP. Other songs like "Robot City" and"On My Back" become a bit lost in repetition. In all, buy this record for the soundtrack of a Sunday drive or an afternoon picnic. It will perk up the blues in your dreary day."
