CD Reviews

One of the best of many recent great Austrailian bands!
Shawn Carson | Philadelphia, PA | 11/27/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A while back I stumbled upon Snowman while researching another Austrailian band called Wolf & Cub. I was very pleased I found this Perth based band. Their sound is that of post punk experimentalism with elements of rockabilly, surf rock and punk blues. They have been touring the local Perth music scene since about 2003 and more recently supported large national tours with Spoon, Interpol, Wolf & Cub, Wolfmother, Liars, Drones, etc. In 2005 the band were nominated for six WAMi Awards: 'Most Popular Act', 'Most Popular Single / EP', 'Most Popular Live Act', 'Favourite Newcomer', and 'Most Promising New Act & Best Punk Act', winning the 'Favourite Newcomer' award. In 2006 the band were again nominated for a couple of WAMi Awards: 'Most Popular Live Act' and 'Best Male Vocalist', with Andy Citawarman getting the 'Best Male Vocalist Award'. 2006 also saw them sign a deal to Melbourne based indie label Dot Dash, and record an album with Perth producer David Parkin at Blackbird Studio. The self titled album, Snowman, was released 23 September 2006 to very positive reviews. At the 2007 WAMi Awards Snowman won three WAMingtons for 'Most Popular Album' (Snowman), 'Most Popular Music Video' ("You Are A Casino") and 'Best Rock Act'. A wave of fantastic Aussie bands has been making good on the scene. Bands like Wolfmother, Jet, The Butterfly Effect, Grinspoon, End of Fashion, and Wolf & Cub show that the Austrailian is one of the most exciting of late. For my money, Snowman is one of the best representatives of this thriving music scene. I think Pitchfork said it well when they stated, "It's bands like Snowman that give the sense that Australian rock is about to produce something truly unique" - Pitchforkmedia.com
