CD Reviews

Snapcase's Best Work, Definitely
Jack Moore | Charlottesville, Virginia | 10/13/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Personally, I love everything Snapcase has put out in their career, but the best is easily Steps (EP). Despite being fairly short, it carries a more powerful message than the rest of their music and I believe the guitar work is better as well. Snapcase is a great band not only because of their outstanding music, but also the fact that they're positive, but not so much as to scare you out of listening. A lot of Christian bands (they're not, but I'm getting to my point) use their message to put down people who aren't of their spirituality. They'll often bring down people of other faiths who listen to their music, simply because of differences in belief. Snapcase look on the brighter side, but always relate that back to what's really happening, the bad things. They have a good message, altogether.Steps shows outstanding musicianship from the band, hardcore guitar work matched up against tight drumming and thundering bass. The songs are not overly produced, nor do they sound like they've been recorded in a garage. It is just at that perfect level, where there can still be a raw edge without sounding bad. This is another high point.Besides that, the songwriting is really skillful and well done. This is something to look out for because in newer albums, this is a high point and is obviously started with this record. Out of the four songs, my favorite has to be the title track, although they are all, truly, perfect. There aren't any flaws on this EP at all whatsoever.I strongly recommend this release to anyone into hardcore or punk music. It was done in true punk spirit, hard to find, cheap, and short. It's a really good CD and is very satisfying. ... ."
