Synopsis

Album Description
SLEEPING GIANT is a contemporary, alternative rock band from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, that has just released its first CD, Dance On This Earth, consisting of ten original tunes (45 minutes). Their music is acoustic and electric guitar based, with strong vocal harmonies, poignant lyrics, classic rhythms, tasteful percussive accents, creative bass lines, hooky guitar work, surprising special effects, and real (not synthesized!) strings. No samples, no sound bites, no canned drum tracks - just real, good music. A genuine Colorado mountain thunderstorm introduces Find A Way, an ethereal acoustic escape of introspective yearning. Tom Schwall's edgy, haunting vocals are complemented by the colorful layering of Jeff Swoyer's well placed harmonies. Drummer Mark Walker supplies a steady stream of innovative percussion, while Randy Dodd's expressive rhythm guitar and Willie Samuelson's solid bass lines set the groove. Trevor Guire provides additional harmonies, and his lead vocal on the pop tune Dance The Night Away complements the diverse repertoire assembled on this CD. This is a phenomenal first effort from a band whose musical influences range from Pink Floyd to Steve Miller, with a dash of the Tubes thrown in for fun. Introspective, environmental, political, love gone bad, love gone good - its all there, with much more to come from these talented musicians. Produced by platinum record and Emmy Award winning engineer, Scott Singer, the CD features five time CMA Musician of the Year nominee Brent Rowan on electric guitar, with guest appearances from Berklee School of Music pianist Rick St. Pierre, jazz keyboardist Mark Johnston, and violinist Teresa Steffen, whose musical contributions add spice and diversity to the classic sound of this group.
