"This cd is a careful field recording of a wonderful tradition finally receiving its due in the West. String and wind chamber ensembles in South China play complex heterophony with vituoso technique. The music is quite unlike any other chinese style except perhaps for the instrumental accompaniement to chinese opera. The music is direct and engaging, easy on western ears and sensibilities. Prof. Alan Thrasher who supervised the recording is a noted scholar in the field and the notes are excellent. Other cds of interest are available from Hugo and the King World Music series."
