I've followed her career since 1986 when I bought my first compact disc ever, her self-titled debut album. With the exception of that first offering, "Deep" is certainly my favorite. It offers a wonderful fusion of Norwegian folk music with modern twists, and the simple, clear melodies that highlight her beautiful voice. My only gripe is the inclusion of Placido Domingo as a duet partner in the album's final track, a re-working of her Olympic "Fire in Your Heart"...his presence seems a bit misplaced. Still, a wonderful album highlighting a wonderful singer." Some of the best music I've heard. I listen to it a lot, and I can never get tired of it.Being Danish i understand most of the Norwegian lyrics, but even if I didn't, I'd still be spellbound by the the way that Sissels voice and the music interact.There is no doubt as to why the CD was entitled Deep Within My Soul. You can feel the sincerety through every track, the hymns, the dramatical folk songs and the slightly playful folk song (Stevtone).If I should have to point to a favorite track, that would be very hard, because they're all great. The hymn, Awaken My Soul, is a commonly sung Danish hymn, even though we generally don't use the same melody as Sissel does with the lyrics, but I have come to love Sissels melody more and more.Buy the CD - You won't regret it!"
