Synopsis

Amazon.com
The Cali combo Simon Says serve up their own style of Ozzfest-friendly hard music on a strong sophomore outing of melodic nu metal without the rap and with strong vocal melodies. Singer Matt Frank's vocals are dramatic but not overwrought on creepy-cool songs such as "Syphon" and on the portentous yet gentle "Tourniquet," while Simon Says's musicality boasts just enough heavy riffage on the mostly midtempo selections. The songs have room to breathe as the simple, solid-rock production sets Simon Says apart from nu-metal brethren who cram too much into a tune. Shut Your Breath is a cohesive, impressive effort from a band clearly coming into their own. --Katherine Turman

CD Reviews

Tired off the haters!

"What the hell is up with those previouse reviews?! first off their not a boy band...far from! and as for them being signed by a major label that has Disney in it...so what?! they got a 3 million deal contract in 98/99, they got the deal cause Simon Says is off the hook! they've toured with such bands as Limp Bizkit and Filter...ect. Man theve been rippin' out great music since 94. this new cd is great! If you like filter and Faith No more, then you'll love this band. this cd has great guitar riffs and amazing vocals. this cd is a must have, so go ahead and get it, you won't regret it. And to that person who said that simon says has no talent, whats your thought on talent... LFO? grow up."

"Jan 29, 2006 - So you're still listening to Rock Radio and expecting to hear something good? Compared to Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, Korn, Disturbed, or any other horrid metal band, these guys shred the competition. Picture a blend of the Deftones (back when they screamed alot) and an anonymous grunge band and you've got Simon Says. In a world where everything seems to be turned upside down, these guys are overshadowed by bands that are completely vacant of any musical talent.

Aug 28, 2006 - I was watching BeerFest in theatres the other day and heard track 1 (Hey You) on there...excellent choice and a pleasant surprise hearing GOOD music in movies these days...check it out and watch Beerfest."
THE BEST CD EVER!!!!

"Matt Frank kicks @$$ vocally here with my all time fovorite CD ever released! I can listen to this CD over and over and over and never get bored. It's got every element needed to make the most amazing metal album ever. From crushing chords and sadistic lyrics to harrowing vocals and catchy chorus lines, this CD will have you SCREAMING your @$$ off!

Hey You - Freakign amazing! When I bought this CD after a friend told me that they were too heavy for him and he felt they were satanistic (you have to understand...he's a prude) the guy at the counter said they were very much like the Deftones and I thought, thats cool, I dig Chino and the boys, but this CD blows Deftones out of the freaking water! Just listen to this opener which gets you ready for a verbal onslaut!

Syphon - One of my favorite songs ever! Matt has the creepiest voice ever...he'd scare Marylin Manson.

Canvas - A great song about double crossing freinds...I felt this way plenty a time.

Silk Moth (Mr. Double Face) - More double crossment...The lyrics on this entire album are some of the most mature thoughts in music today and it's truly an art to see how Matt spins the web of his mind.

Segue - One of the most beautiful melodies ever..instumental but one of the best out there

Blister (Nothing) - this is the single and an amazing choice it was...Great song, and it shows what this band is made of.

Dead Weight - I love the feel of this song, is it acoustic is it electric...it just works all the way around

Limousines & Penthouse Suites (Break Me Down) - This song is about the pop trach that floods the radio waves today...pretty much Matt hates Brintey Spears and Justin Timberlake!

Dyslexic Smile - Great song!

Tourniquet - I love this song, like 'Dead Weight' to me, it just works so well

Train Wreck - This song is good, but it's not my favorite, it just doesn't fit with the flow of the rest of the album

El Ess - This is the best closing song ever penned...the music is just beautiful yet forcfull and brutal...the lyrics are engrossing and enchanting and you'll be spellbound...just listen to this sick twisted love song that will make your mouth water for another track, just one more track to keep your high going

All and all this is the BEST CD that I own, and I own quit a few. If you own and or have heard 'Jump Start' and because of that wasted effort do not own this CD please buy this CD RIGHT NOW...Simon Says are the prime example of evolution on the music front, they went form Creed to Spineshank in brutality with heartfelt lyrics and eerie gutar work and Matt's voice that fits this CD like a glove!
