CD Reviews

They can [..] glitter on me anytime!!!

"So I ran across this cd while shopping at Virgin. What draws me into a band I may not have heard before is there cover art. I can tell a lot just by looking at what they have chosen to represent themselves. And Shitting Glitter's new cd "Free Alongside Ship"'s artwork is right up my alley! So of course I listened to a little bit at the store and decided to give it a try. And I'm really glad I did!!

Upon first listen you can tell right away that this is not a product of the mainstream "pop" labels. But that does not make it any less appealing. Every single song on this disc has a catchy almost sing-a-long quality to it. But that hardly means that the songs run together or become indistinguishable from each other. SH effortlessly glides from 80's retro to an almost indie/emo sound back to some power-pop and then off into a completely unique dance sound that i can't seem to find the words to describe. And they have the lyrics to match. I hate nothing more than hearing a great band and then REALLY listening to the lyrics only to find that they are so inane and juvenile that they make you cringe. That is DEFINITELY NOT the case here!!

I think my fave songs off the album would have to be: Mondo Di Corpo and Guaranteed Used. But I honestly love every song on here. Imcomparable White Six and Ladyslipper are another two that I love....again, why am I naming songs...I really do love them all!! I've been listening to it at work quite a bit lately and I've discovered a new love for The Amnesty Party. Hearing lead singer Amy quietly speak/sing over Brandon's guitar is just so pleasing to the ear. And then Devin coming in with some atmospheric effects....almost reminds me of a lost track from the Murmurs...though the Murmurs never recorded something as lovely as this!

I did some reading up on the band and found out they will be playing a show this weekend in West Hollywood 2/18/06 at the Cat Club. So I'm excited to go out and see what they can do....live and in person. I'm sure they won't dissapoint. I sure hope they continue to grow as artists and really make their mark in the music scene. I have no doubt, after listening to their first FULL release, that they are well on their way to showing the rest of the world what they can do!"
