Synopsis

Product Description
Shawn Lee goes completely pop here as he does tunes by Gwen Stefani, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Blur, Badly Drawn Boy, Justin Timberlake, OutKast, and many more. This multi-instrumentalist's sound, which started as a take on old school "library" albums, has grown into a sound of his own, utilizing vintage clavioline, zither, harpsichord, xylophone, Vox guitar, tremelo, dulcetone, and more. Following the success of "Voices And Choices" (from which "Kiss The Sky" was picked as an iTunes "song of the day") and his previous albums (three tunes from which were recently used in each of the three trailers for the "Oceans 13" movie), this is the second album from Lee this year, but not his last. Look for a Christmas album in November.

CD Reviews

Fun, unique takes on pop songs
A. Whitney | Silicon Valley, CA USA | 06/09/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Shawn Lee is a talented composer and musician. I first heard his soundtrack for the video game Bully and was hooked. He is well-versed in obscure and multicultural instruments, but he also incorporates some of the best styles from the past. He knows how to master a 60's sound, but also can keep it sounding fresh. You will be astounded at how he can take even the most tiresome pop song and transform it.

His version of "Hey Ya" is like Ramsey Lewis sat down at the piano in a Greenwich Village coffeehouse in 1960. "Get UR Freak On" is no longer a catchy (and ultimately annoying) hook, but a surf noir monster mantra. "Toxic" is re-imagined as a sexy sitar grind.

Many of these songs I would never listen to in their original states, but Lee has used his creativity to elevate them. I often play this when friends are over and someone always wants to know who it is."
