CD Reviews

I don't mean to sound selfish, but.....

"I'm not sure I should tell others that this is one of the best jazz/pop CD's I have ever heard. It's bright, breezy, and just the right mix of up-tempo and silky tones brought together, one impeccable track after another. If I tell too many, there will never be copies around to buy as gifts for favorite friends, or heaven forbid that I damage or lose my copy and need another one!I've known of ShakaTak since the mid-1980's when I heard a program devoted to their music on the BBC WorldService. If memory serves me right, their name was borrowed from a local record store, and they really hit things off with the top 40 tune "Down on the Street." There were several albums that followed "Street" and for the most part they produced some mixed result: they were OK, just not one of those "Everyone's a Winner" CD. Then, came "Open your Eyes" in 1991. "Eyes" builds on their better rhythm schemes, has that light, yet purposefully, jazz piano, similar to Joe Sample, and a depth at vocals from Jilly Saward that is so multileveled that at times you'd swear it couldn't be the same person singing.I cannot say enought about this album, but if there's someone strattling the fence while reading this, I'll offer this: The cut "Day by Day" features accompanying vocals by Al Jarreau and ShakaTak runs well with him, even bettering his smoothness on a couple of turns."
Superb, Fabulous, Leaves you wanting more

"This CD was stolen out of my car last year, and for all this time I have been looking to replace it -- no one else had it but I finally found it and I can't tell you how happy I am. If you like jazz, this is one CD you must own."
YOU BETTER GET IT.
