Back in the mid-'80s, Hoboken, New Jersey's Gutbank preceded and predicted such smart, powerful female punks as Hole, Babes In Toyland, and P.J. Harvey, not to mention the riot grrrls. Now, the original trio of Alice Genese, Karyn Kuhl, and Tia Sprocket are back with a new name, Sexpod, a slightly more metallic sound, and a killer debut called Goddess Blues. "Patti Smith meets Soundgarden" is the phrase that's repeated throughout their press kit, and for once, the disc lives up to the hype. Any one of these gals could kick Alanis Morrisette's butt with one hand tied behind her back. Jim Derogatis

CD Reviews

The greatest band you've never heard of!!!...

"Sexpod never really did achieve any recognition for being one of the best female rock bands of all time, mainly I think because of the short lifespan of the band, and the reclusive personality of the lead singer, songwritter, and guitarist Karyn Kuhl.

From the very first power chords of "Goddess Blues" (the first track), it's apparant that something incredibly amazing is happening here. I've listened to many female guitarists in my time, and none can compare to Karyn's talent or insight. Her playng brings forth images of almost every great rock guitarist I've ever heard...(Hendrix, Clapton, Paige, ect.)... and adds her own fresh smoothe touch to it that makes it unbelievably addictive to listen to. Her talent is not limited to playng power chords either, she can and does play the most phenomenal solos. She can do it all with a guitar, and do it all really well.

Her voice is nothing short of hypnotic. I think what mainly draws me to it is that there's the slightlest hint of unintended desperation in every line. She never wails or screams...rather reflects a quite confidence, intertwined with a hint of despair.

Karyn still plays around New York City with her new "Band of Whores". I got the chance to meet her a couple of times over the past year, and she's really a great person as well as an incredible talent.

If you love ROCK as much as I do(especially girl bands). You owe it to yourself to buy this!!!!!

PLAY IT LOUD!!!!!!!!!"

"I hear the title track on the radio a couple of years ago and decided to buy the album. I was not disappointed! These girls know how to rock. Nothing sappy or whiny; just straight up metal with awesome bass. Really not a bad song on the whole album."
They're godesses

"Sexpod was a band that i'd never really heard of. But I saw it used at a store and it was a $1.50 I thought the cover was entertaining, so I decided to get it. That was the best $1.50 i've ever spent. This album is great. I don't really know what to call them, what catagory. Maybe riot grrl I don't know, whatever it was, I love it!"
