Brutality is back!
Drifter | Texas,USA | 12/02/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't know how long this band has been around but I wished I would have known about them sooner. I have Brutality is Law and I pre ordered this one and got it the day it was released. They remind me of Morbid Angel,Suffocation and even Deicide a little all wrapped up in one fine package. This is for true fans of death metal. These guys offer a non stop assault of extreme, brutal fast pace death metal with no apologies. I found them by accident and heard some samples and gave them a shot. I don't regret it with both albums. I've already listened to both cds a hundred times seems like. If you never heard 'Severed Savior' check them out. Buy this and Brutality is Law today."
Another Great Technical Death Release. But Nothing Groundbrea
Arikthehorrific | California,CA USA | 06/06/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is my first Severed Savior Album. I mostly bought it out of chance and by listening to a few samples, and I'm glad I did. It was a tough decision with all the new technical death metal releases out now like Deeds of Flesh's "Of What's To Come", Decrepit Birth's "Diminishing Between Worlds", Spawn of Possession's "Noctambulant", and a couple others that all recently went really technical. Even though I chose Severed Savior above all I still want those other albums because I don't think you can go wrong with any them.

This album is pure relentless technical brutal death metal. Even though they went really technical they still don't forget those hard hitting chords that keep your head banging. The downside of them going technical is that it's pretty hard to get into the album right when you get it. It takes repetitive listens to really grasp everything, I think the same thing could be said about other technical death bands though and is rather common for the genre. All the instruments are top notch, which is always a good thing, unfortunately I can't find anything particularly special or inspiring about them unless to say that there technical and fast and have good tone, but nothing more (excluding the acoustic/jazz parts). In addition the production is perfect, you can hear what all the instruments are doing, even the bass. But it still has that full heavy sound to it which I like; It sounds a lot like Odious Mortem though. That may be a good thing for some but for me it kind of took away the desire to even get Odious Mortem's newest release "Cryptic Implosion" because they sound so similar, they even have the same vocalist. Which I don't like too much for some reason, possibly the tone of his growl/voice, that's being picky though, he's a good death metal vocalist nonetheless.

They have some pretty impressive solos and interesting acoustic/jazz breakdowns though, which makes this album more melodic and progressive, it also shows off some acoustic skills

Some things that I think that the music could use is that I wish they would use those progressive elements more, there hardly used at all, I think it's only used in three songs. It would have made a great theme for the album. Same goes for the solos too, they're really good but they're also really short most of the time, like 5 seconds and that's it(or so it feels like it) and aren't used in every song. Also, I think the music gets too high paced some times for too long and the music starts to lose its rhythm, they need to let the music breath a little more or slow it down once in a while,or putting more of those progressive elements in would help too, just like on tracks 1,3,and 4 (which are my favorite tracks). It really makes it easier to grasp and highlight parts of the songs. Overall this is a solid technical death metal album and is a fine addition to the rest of the technical death metal releases of 2008.

Ultimate Death Metal!!!
Drum Blast | USA | 12/07/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Take every great death metal band and put them in a grinder. What do you get? Severed Savior. This album is way more progressive the the last, but nonetheless brutal. I hear Spawn of Possession, a heavy dose of Suffocation, a bit of Arsis, all mixed and brutalized. Take it from me, this album rocks. It is great to keep in your car CD player for extended repetitions as it does not get old at all.

Servile Insurrection is a must buy for brutal technical death metal fans. Enjoy."
