CD Reviews

These guys rule!

"If anyone has seen Sev perform live, this CD is a must for their collections. These guys from Virginia/DC are already well-known in the area for their kick-a** live shows and their major label debut comes as close as a studio album can come to translating a live show for the listener. After listening to songs like "Same Old Song," "Stand Straight," and "Player," you'll be able to see why their live shows are so energetic and unbelievable. With their sing-along choruses, you can picture yourself jumping around at one of their shows. Vocalists Danny and Phil seem to play off each other with a chemistry similar to that of SA and Nick of 311. While Phil does most of the rhyming, Danny shows off some impressive vocals in "All These Dreams," "24/7/365," and "Twisted." Overall, these guys just flat-out rock. The disc is a combination of hard rock, punk, hip hop, rap, etc. Sev deserves to be heard by everyone. So if you like any of the genres of music mentioned above, like the energy of live shows, and just want to sing out loud, go out and buy this album. You won't be disappointed."
Just AMAZING

"If I had to choose one band in the whole world I would like to see live, it would be these guys from Northern VA. They put on an amazing show. When this album came out, I went and got it immediatly, and it's been in my cd changer ever since. It has got a great balance of songs. My favorites would have to be "Alright by Me," "Menace to Society," and, of course, "Same Old Song." If I could only recommend one album for the year 2002, it would be Sev. Go and get it."
It's good for a starter.

"I didn't even know this band existed until my friend played me that Pepsi Blue commercial song from like 2 years ago, and I'd been looking for a new rap-rock band to listen to. I know it's almost out of style, but I like the sound. So I don't care what's on MTV at the moment.

So Sev...they have really good potential. A few of the songs here really shine, such as "All These Dreams", "Same Old Song", "Alright By Me", and the first extra track on the eccono. They really can sound good if they want to; it's just that some of the tracks (7-10) all sound the same. The melody imprinted in the above mentioned songs is great, and both rap-styles I like. They have a really good beat going, and the music really does get you pumped up. A good example of this would be "Player", or "Menace". Honestly - they are good.

They need work, though. More melody, more actual singing, and more SFX in with the constant distortion guitar. Some people say their credibility is lax because they named their band after one of the singer's girlfriends (Alexis Sevanna). I'm not sure if that's true, but it wouldn't hurt them if they did; many bands have done that. What DOES hurt them is the fact that they post reviews of themselves on amazon under the alias A Music Fan. Come on, guys, there are other ways of promotion. At least you could identify yourselves when you put the one up about the eccono package, that was helpful at least.

But yeah...Sev is a decent rap-rock band. They need some work, but they could be amazing if they put their minds to it."
