"If you are a native of Mexico, well, you are already familiar with the voice and personality of Pedro Infante, you no doubt own at least one of his CD's, and you certainly do not need to read this review to learn about him or his songs. If you are not a native of Mexico, Pedro Infante was an incredibly romantic singer and movie actor, most active during the 40's and early to mid-50's (the time of his premature demise). He is also the greatest popular figure that Mexico has given the century, consequently, a CD titled "La Serenata del Siglo" (The Serenade of the Century) seems entirely appropriate. The CD includes 15 songs - about half of which serenades, or verses sung by a young suitor to his girl friend at night or in the early morning - that will transport those of you who know Spanish into a world of chivalry and romance which probably (and hopefully) still survives in Mexico today. If you do not know Spanish, but still enjoy mariachi and other Latin American music, the CD is a perfect reminder of the intense passion and warmth typical of our neighbors South of the border. The booklet included with the CD provides the words to all the songs. They make knowing Spanish, even a little of it, very well worth."
