CD ReviewsOverused Sample But Good Nevertheless Jake Tha Snake | East Coast, USA | 10/16/2001 (3 out of 5 stars) "Despite the use of Keni Burke's (The 5 Stairsteps) "Keep Risin' To The Top" as the backbone of "Crosstown Beef" (Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew were the first to make good with this sample back in '88), Brooklyn's Medina Green (affiliated with ghetto superstar Mos Def) don't disappoint. A relatively quiet looping drum pattern accents the track and provides a spotlight for all three MCs (although it's evident that neither of the other two are Mos's equal on the microphone). Not commercial in design, but a solid effort. As a b-side, the human beatbox driven "Fla*La*Lashe" is utterly forgettable. Produced by Mase (from De La Soul)."
