CD Reviews

Damo Suzuki's Network - 'Seattle' 2-CD import
Mike Reed | USA | 01/04/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Damo Suzuki was the vocalist on many landmark lp's by the German progressive pioneers Can,lp's like 'Soundtracks','Tago Mago' and 'Future Days'.Former(and the late-R.I.P.) Can guitarist Michael Karoli is also present on this double live release that was recorded in Seattle on Nov.4,1998.Disc one starts off with "Half Of Heaven At Half Past Eleven" which is twelve minutes of pure laid back trippyness armed with Suzuki's distinctive vocals."She Crosses The Universe" is a nice tune in the prog-psych vein."Light Of Fortune" is a bit jazzy but it develops into some fine spacey instrumental work."Seattle Shuffle" displays some classy violin playing by Karoli, who switches from guitar to violin several times during the evening's performance.Disc two begins with "Port Of Timeless Situation",a seventeen minute progressive piece that becomes a bit heavy before you know it."Mother Sky",the disc's sole Can gem features some earth-shattering guitar, powerful rhythm and really stellar wailing."Floating Bridge Mix" runs half-an-hour and includes some funk and noisy pysch elements,it feels SO good.Exquisite packaging.Comes in an oblong slim lined digipack like holder.Has a detailed map of the Seattle area.Get your self a sheet of plastic wrap as you'll want to preserve the artwork. Can't recommend this CD highly enough."
