Great memories

"The Searchers were part of that phenomenon called the British Invasion of 1964. American pop music was in a bit of a rut at the time, and the introduction of all this great music from across the pond was welcome, indeed. Their first hit on our shores, "Needles and Pins", climbed the charts nearly as fast as the Beatles did. Written by Jackie DeShannon, The Searchers gave it a fresh sound. All of the Searchers' hits are here, and they sound great...in stereo. Playing the supposed 5.1 tracks, I was reminded of the "Duophonic" process, attempting to create stereo out of mono. Some of these songs were really meant for mono release, with decent stereo on those meant for that format. Trying to make discrete 5.1 out of these tracks just doesn't work. I'd rather hear good mono or stereo than contrived surround, especially if the original multitrack masters (if they exist) are not used to create the surround mix. The technique used here by Silverline to create surround from mono and stereo just doesn't do it for me. Play the DVD side, but choose the advanced resolution stereo track rather than the surround."
