Root Boy Slim,Billy Wertz,Dr.John,Screamin Jay is the BEST

"If you like the blues, well, just a little twisted. Then your gonna love Screamin Jay Hawkins. Now I know where Root Boy Slim, Reverend Billy Wertz, Mojo Nixon, Dr John and many more got their influence. How this artist never grew in popularity is beyond me. Maybe it's me that just a little twisted. Screamin Jay's Blues are soulful, comical, and come from somewhere most of us have never been. It is that odd mix that I find so delightful. A+ Artist that no one knows."

"A wonderful collection of pre-fame songs by one of the greatest blues screamers of all time. No "I put a spell on you" here, but no matter: you need to hear "I Hear Voices" and "The Whammy" to fully understand the awesome genius of Screamin' Jay! The man was more than a novelty act, as evidenced by his performances on this here cd. Simply incredible!"

"This is a great colection of Screamin' Jay Hawkins blues renditions. Though "I Put A Spell On You" is absent from the track list, this compact disc has a variety of Hawkins blues essentials. One of the best songs on the album is a rare Paul McCartney cover - "Monkberry Moon Delight" - which was featured on McCartney's second solo album "Ram". It's a rousing and supremely entertaining rendition. I strongly recomend this album to blues fans all over, as Screamin' Jay Hawkins pours out his heart and soul into his over-the-top vocals."
