CD Reviews

Power pop nonpariel!
Daniel | Singapore | 07/01/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As one of Australia's best kept secrets, Screamfeeder play *the* true kind of classic power pop - melodic, tons of hooks, great lyrics, and did i mention the tunes?! Imagine the driving intensity and riffage of Superchunk, crossed with a hint of Fountains Of Wayne, Husker Du, a little Velocity Girl and Versus for good measure. But better. The singles are all killers - Static, Gravity and the irresistable bouncines of Dart are destined to be classics - but ignore the rest of the songs at your own risk. The drum fills that punctuate every line of Bridge Over Nothing; the emo/punk blast of Bruises; bassist Kellie's vocal debut Down The Drinker; Explode Your Friends and Pigtails On A Rock for the introspective moody shades you wear when the party's over - every track is a winner, and there's nothing in this album that would make you even think of hitting the Next button. This was one of my favourite albums when it was first released in 1997. It's been one of those cds that I always end up playing ever so often though by now i know every song inside out. Can't get tired of it. Now it's been remastered, some tracks remixed, couple songs taken out and replaced by the AWESOME b-side (that should never have been so relegated) Summertime and repackaged with a whole new look and life. Screamfeeder rock, and this album represents them at their best. Most highly recommended indeed."
