Captivating and Timeless - Savage Rose - Black Angel
12/22/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Anyone recognizing original songwriting performed with some of the best musicians will be positively surprised by this masterpiece, partially produced by George Duke. The genius of Thomas Koppel in music and arrangement is evident in these original tracks, and the lyrics and vocal performance by Annisette is powerful and moving. The impressive list of musicians including Ray Fuller, Ricky Lawson, Gerald Albright a.o. perfectly complement the talent needed to accomplish such a diversified album transcending several genre's. This album is captivating and timeless and will astound the listener again and again. It is a must hear... The voice of an angel

"Savage Rose can be best discribed as a phenomenon. The arrangements and compositions of Thomas Koppel with the voice of his life companion Annisette is magic. She has the voice of an angel, that is difficult to discribe with words. She is tender, soft, raw and wild at the same time. She is love and pain in the same person. I recommend this album with all of my heart."
The Voice of Scandinavia!

"The composition of this R&B R&R album is great, but greatest is the great voice of the greatest singer in Scandinavia; Annisette.
Annisette is a Scandinavian legend. The band was formed in '68, and Annisette short after joined the band - gaining immediate international fame. Savage Rose has released more than 25 albums, and still Annisette is the most prominent female pop, R & B, and rock'n'roIl singer of Scandinavia. Black angel is one of the most international orientated albums and allso one of the best for the last 10-15 years. My favorit.
In '69, ROLLING STONE's Lester Bangs reviewed The Savage Rose and called her voice 'a unique distillation of all the important female rock singers of the sixties: Phil Spector's girl combos, Aretha Franklin, Grace Slick, Julie Driscoll; in an incredible way maintaining absolute originality'.
Famous American critic Ed Ward too reviewed The Savage Rose: '...the range of Annisette 's voice, both in terms of octaves and emotions, is incredible in every way, and the band's assimilation of seemingly all the major developments of R & R for the past ten years, combined with the classical elements, is astonishing, and the integration of all these elements is, quite simply, beyond belief. Those are a lot of superlatives, but they are, believe me, well-deserved'.
This album also deserve such great reviews - go buy it and review it!"
