CD Reviews

Unique, creative CD for pet meditation

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a great idea for a CD, and I haven't seen anything else like it. There are two tracks, each about 20 minutes, which combine soothing music and atmospheric sound with pet-friendly narration. Each session starts with simple commands and lots of praise--"Good dog, good boy, good girl," etc. Your pet is then encouraged to relax and calm down. There is occasional reference to the park or beach setting, but most of the language focuses on relaxation. There are also breathing cues, leading the pet into a meditative state. Finally, the tracks ebb away in quiet music. Now granted, unless your dog understands quite a lot of English, he or she will not understand all the cues when listening alone, but the tone of the voice is so calming and loving, with lots of praise and unabashed baby talk--or should I say "pet talk"--which your dog probably does understand, that the general message is clear. Likewise, unless your cat understands a lot of English and will be offended by being called a dog, this CD is suitable as a cat-sitting CD as well. Finally, if you want to actually get your pet into a meditative state, try meditating with your pet while listening to the CD together. I've often noticed my pets calm down and like to be around me when I am meditating, and I had one cat I used to meditate with before and after a major surgery who really seemed to respond to it. The music and voice are soothing enough for humans too (if you are not bothered by a "pet talk" tone). I listen with mine while repeating some of the CD's phrases so they will associate the CD with me when I am not there, and they do seem to respond. Listen to the samples here or on the author's website and see if it is something your beloved pet(s) might benefit from and enjoy."
