A virtual seaunce rollercoster ride of operetic emotions.
(5 out of 5 stars)
"This French import will lead you of a gammet, seaunce, rollercoaster ride of voice excersize operetic emotions of some of Sarah's best Roulette recordings. Sarah could have sung the song "You've Changed" aboard the Titanic just before it split in half and sank. Listen to the rollercoaster rides of operetic notes on "Hands Across The Table","Dreamy","Crazy He Calls Me".Sarah absolutely revamps "Stormy Weather" in a way that Lena Horne could not hold a candle to it.These are 17 fantastic Roulette recordings which are particularly on this CD.The CD Snowbound/The Lonely Hours comes in a close second."
Incredible reprint of the Roulette album "Dreamy"
(5 out of 5 stars)
"As I was talking Sarah in her guest room at Rosie's in New Orleans in 78 I asked her "Sarah,Did you ever know Billie Holliday" & she answered "Know Not Really, & don't you believe that either".This answer shows the typical Divine Sassy One.I also said "Sarah you sounded special on Roulette" & Sarah responded "Teddy Reig wanted me to sound that way". I Sarah personally autograph the Dreamy album. Sarah recorded 14 albums on this gangster connected label l960-63.The finest album on Roulette was "Dreamy" out of print CD but don't fret all but one song is not on it but instead 6 fine selections from Roulette are added to this recording."Dreamy"is that point where dim reality meets the awakened fantasy;the moment when you can leave the cold, solid ground of worldly care to turn & tread lightly on air!Dreamy is that etheral place where lovers dwell. There is featured, softly muted & highly distinctive warmth of Harry"Sweets"Edison trumpet, the lush string backdrop & the change of tempo to a light, rhyhmic jazz flavor. She joined forces with arranger Jimmy Jones to offer superb song interpretations. She conveys her keen sense of control, vibrant timbre, her amazing vibrato & deep emotional involvement with every word of every song."
