Sanctus Real Kicks it up Another Notch!
Jon Wymore | Midland, TX United States | 04/05/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Sanctus Real really comes out with another great album with even more maturity and continuing their great modern pop/rock sound. These guys have been through a lot recently, according to the story behind the songs, and it comes through with a greater passion in their music.

The album kicks off with the already popular single, "I'm Not Alright" which has a great hook and kicks into a sweet bridge about moving closer to God. It continues on with solid songs "Eloquent" and "Fly". "Eloquent" contains some cool wordplay/lyrics and makes its point well. "Fly" at first listen sounds similiar to Downhere with its melody line and guitar progression, another solid song. The title track, "Face of Love", which is taken from Brennan Manning and talks about how as we gaze into the face of love our faces are changed and we become the face of love to the world. Wow it's powerful.

The rest of the album is solid as well. "Don't Give Up" is another top notch rocker and more diversity follows. This album may not be as straight-up rock as their others but the songwriting and music show a growth of maturity that most fans should come along for. The only small complaint I have is that it seems the guitars on "Possibilities" are just a little too quiet. This song I've heard live and rocks, but it seems like the guitars take a back seat on this one intead of busting you straight up front..minor complaint though.

The lyrics here are a little more introspective and searching in some ways, but they remind me more of the Psalms where it starts out in a dark place, but finds the hope in finding rest in God's presence. The songs rock and this is another album that should open even more ears to a great band!

P.S.-My wife had the privelige to actually meet these guys at the airport and they talked with her and her brother for quite awhile and were so down to earth and genuine it hooked her for listening to them!"
I AM alright!

"I am 47 years old and have been listening to Christian Rock music since the early 80s. Over the past 10+ years I have only been drawn to a few good Christian ROCK bands to bridge the gap between my days of rocking out to Petra, DeGarmo & Key, White Heart and Mylon Lefevre throughout the 80s and early 90s (i.e., Whitecross, Altar Boys & Stryper). However, over the past few years I've discovered many new Christian bands that I've fallen in love with. Sanctus Real is one of the bands at the top of that list. Their latest release, The Face of Love, is outstanding. What fascinates me is how much of their music seems to effortlessly move in-and-out from smooth pop/rock type music to hard crunching rock -- all within the same song(i.e., The Face of Love, Don't Give Up, Thank You). My favorite song on the cd is "We're Trying" however, "Eloquent" is an especially fun song too in that the lyrics often cause me to crack up laughing: "I'm as eloquent as an elephant/I'm as headstrong as the Mighty King Kong" . . . "I'm difficult, argumentative/I'm as thick skulled as the dinosaur bones . . ." But also goes on to make the point that in spite of all this: "I can't believe you [Jesus]haven't gone away" If you're looking for great Christian rock with a life-changing message, these guys are for [Sanctus] Real!!"
The Face of Love

"The Face Of Love is a mixture of rock, punk, emo and a little indie. It has very powerful and uplifting lyrics. In the song I'm not alright. It focuses on someone who wants to fit in, but gets drawn away from god. Then all in all the person confesses his/her doing and realizes that he/she needs to get back to god. So that's obviously what he/she does. This CD is extremely brilliant as well as Sanctus Real's other CDs were. You won't be sorry if you buy this album."
