This is just a great record. Particularly if, like me, you enjoy unusual instrumentation in a swinging jazz setting this is a must. Jones plays both cello and bass, switching off duties with the unfairly almost unknown Keter Betts. Nat Adderley plays his trademark cornet on some cuts, on others there's Blue Mitchell on trumpet. Add the soul jazz piano of Bobby Timmons, Louis Hayes on drums and both baritone and tenor sax players...and you've got heavenly stuff, my friends. Much of this line-up is from the Cannonball Adderley band, of course, the founders of soul jazz. There are also strong connecting links to the fine Nat Adderley disc, "Work Song," which is also brimming with Jones' and Betts' cello and bass."
