"Since Sweden's Saint Deamon was added to this year's ProgPower USA lineup, I decided I'd better check out their debut album In Shadows Lost from the Brave to see what to expect from this new band.

Saint Deamon, which features the rhythm section from Dionysus (Ronny Milianowicz and Nobby Noberg) plus ex-Highland Glory vocalist Jan Grefstad and guitar wizard Toya Johansson, plays highly melodic power metal along the lines of Primal Fear and Brainstorm. The band's version of power metal leans more towards Judas Priest than Helloween (which was not the case in Dionysus). There are plenty of great melodies, but this is definitely a metal album with some punch. The musicianship is tight, and while Grefstad's vocals can get irritating at times, for the most part he does a terrific job.

Saint Deamon is a promising new band, and I'm looking forward to hearing how they deliver this material live. I recommend Saint Deamon to fans of melodic power metal bands like Primal Fear, Brainstorm, Circle II Circle, Pyramaze, and Tad Morose.

NOTE: The album closes with a pair of hidden tracks. The first is an instrumental "karaoke" version of My Heart, and the second is an alternate version of Run for Your Life."
