Synopsis

Album Description
"Not From Around Here," Sage Ali's epic debut CD is more than an album - it is an experience. Hip-hop rhythms meet soulful vocals, funky guitars, basses and horns to create one of the most unique and inspiring R&B/Pop albums in years. Comparisons have already been made with classic works by Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder and Sting - even Bob Marley! In fact, the players include EW&F originals Johnny Graham (guitar) and the Phenix Horns, as well as legendary saxophonist Ernie Watts. In spite of all the comparisons, however, "Not From Around Here" has a sound and feel that is all its own - even the packaging, with its 20-page full color booklet, reflects a level of artistry seldom seen in recent years. Well-crafted pop songs, exotic interludes, intricate arrangements and stellar production ensure that this album is destined to become a classic!

CD Reviews

A GREAT ALBUM!!!
08/20/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is one of my new favorites, up there with classic Stevie, EWF, Prince, and other old school artists. I can't believe this guy isn't REAL famous, but I guess that's a sign of today's music industry. The songs are great - my favorites are "Love Revolution" and "Invisible". Actually, "The Mountain" is really incredible too, over 8 minutes long, it really takes you somewhere. Sage's cd reminds me of Stevie's old stuff, or EW&F's, meaning that it really is an ALBUM, not just a bunch of singles. I listen to the whole thing, from top to bottom! Don't miss the last track, "Climb" - sexy sax for days!"
