RuPaul's ReWorked Retrospective
S. Anderson | New York, NY USA | 06/14/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Instead of returning to the scene with a bland Greatest Hits album, RuPaul's reworked restrospective is a true rollicking romp of dance floor diversity. Refreshingly, a majority of the remixes on "RuPaul.Reworked" are right on point! Power DJs like Jr. Vasquez, Craig C, and Gomi among others, put thier talents to work, and succeed in re-envigorating RuPaul's catalog of music. The tracks "Coming Out of Hiding" (Trance Gender Mix), "Free To Be" (OranGe FuZzZ Emancipation Radio Mix), "Hollywood U.S.A." (Pigeon Forge Vocal), and the Jr. Vasquez remix of "WorkOut" deserve top billing.

You Betta ReWork!!"
Ruworked Mixes

"This was billed as RuPaul's music catalogue remixed for the dance floor. Sadly, this set miss fires. First off, the only older material is "Supermodel" and "Free To Be." The rest of these songs are from her most recent album Red Hot. I was hoping for a much wider selection of Ru tunes. Where's "Snapshot," "Back To My Roots," and "R U Nasty"? The new songs are great, it's just that I liked the originals better.

Where as the original "Looking Good Feeling Gorgeous" is a high energy dance song, the remix is a bit more laid back. Not as intense or energetic. It's a problem that plagues the entire CD. Too bad, as the original songs are full of fun and energy and have much potential for amazing remixes. Also missing is the classic Ru humor. It only crops up in the new run through of Jackson family members on "Supermodel." It's a classic bit though, sure to make you laugh.

This CD is best enjoyed by the RuPal faithful. Red Hot has a better chance of meeting with mass appeal. Reworked makes for fun listening, but is not what I expected."
Runways, Remixed , Reworked & Rewarded
Steven Housman | West Hollywood, CA & Miami, FL | 07/15/2006

"It's been exactly thirteen years since RuPaul's first album, Supermodel Of The World, hit the Billboard charts and made him/her an international recording star. That was one fierce song sung by the tallest Supermodel I had ever witnessed. After many years, runways and recordings, RuPaul has released his first ever remix album of club favorites titled, what else but, Reworked. And reworked it he and his remixers have. From the opening track of the international smash "Supermodel" featuring Shirley Q. Liquor, remixed by El Lay Toya Jam, this track is fresher than it was when he strutted down that catwalk in the early 90's. The CD is comprised of 14 other tracks, including two bonus tracks, the stupendous thumper "Coming Out Of Hiding" (Trance Gender Mix) and a brand new song recorded for this compilation, "The Lonely," remixed splendidly by Giuseppe D. Other well-known tracks that have a fresh and fierce makeover include the smash hit "Free To Be" featuring Chris Willis (OranGeFuZzZ Radio Mix), the fabulous "Looking Good, Feeling Gorgeous" and the standout "Are You Man Enough?," remixed by DJ Joe Carrano. The always outspoken RuPaul comments on why it's important, especially at this time in history that we get out and enjoy ourselves more than ever. RuPaul comments, "Today our culture is far more conservative and fear based. Attacks from the religious right and their influence over politicians have had a huge impact on people who live outside the box. Even gay people are more conservative than ever." He concludes his thoughts by saying, "People take what politicians and religious zealots say at face value, no questions asked. I feel proud of my body of work and that I'm able to offer an alternative to the status quo with my presence in the entertainment industry. My goal is to have a blast at what I'm doing and then to entertain people and hopefully someone will also be inspired by my experience." We ARE inspired and we hear you, RuPaul! If you think you won't find anything new on this set, think again. The title "Reworked" is an understatement. The song titles may be familiar but the beat is new and better than evah! The traditional dance tracks have been reworked into Electronic Funk, Trance, Crunk, House and the always lovable Disco. Need more proof? Download a couple of samples off the internet and I guarantee you'll be reworking it until Labor Day! Thank you, RuPaul, for being such a positive role "model." Nothing you do needs reworking. But as long as you're offering, how can we resist?"
