Superb Recording Quality and Performance
Max-Factor | Los Angeles, CA USA | 07/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Cello Concerto, The Nursey Suite and the other sketches are all outstanding performances. The 32 Bit DSP recording and SBM technology really makes a tremendous difference. You will hear the cello and all the other instruments with extreme clarity. All the subtle nuances of the composition are laid out in front of the listener. You will hear a large and deep soundstage. Great number of microphones were used during the recording sessions, consequently extraneous sounds are picked up from the instruments and the performers - but this does not take anything away from your listening experience. The soloist Yoohong Lee displays tremendous skill with his instrument and conductor Yehudi Menuhin's direction is supremely confident, coherent and highly sensitive.

This CD was sitting on my shelf for more than 10 years. I had listened to it once or twice and at the time it did not make much of an impression on me - probably because I did not have good enough audio gear at the time to really appreciate it.

Recently I ran out of things to listen so I decided to give it a try and was really floored by what I heard. I am a casual listener of classical music. I have not listened to other interpretations therefore I could not compare the performance to other standards but I think this CD will impress the casual and the serious listener.

It is not just an audiophile quality recording lacking substance. It really sings. Highly recommended for your classical collection.
