An orthodox balladeer meets R&B

(5 out of 5 stars)

"During the stay at the corporate Epic, Roy Hamilton left many orchestrated ballads and also some R&B sides. As for R&B fans like me, this compilation should be welcome because it is compiled in a R&B fan's point of view. Orchestrated R&B sound spawned by the conservative Epic is well suited to Roy Hamilton's rich baritone voice with a smooth vibrato. Especially his rockabilly sides are so cool. Such adult arrangements cannot be found so often in other R&B or R&R tunes. If you love hard-edged old school R&B, his sides should not suit you. If you listen a little more patiently, you can find the bud of the gospel-influenced Soul in him."
