CD Reviews

Roy Budd - "The British Lalo Schifrin"
viscowong@aol.com | Palm Springs, California, U.S.A. | 06/14/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Rebirth of the Budd" is a must for anyone who likes movie jazz soundtracks. Budd, who composed music for the films "The Stone Killer", "The Wild Geese", "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger", (all now out of print), has some of his best themes included in this CD. "Rebirth of the Budd" contains music from "Fear is the Key", "Get Carter"(a classic), "Soldier Blue", "The Carey Treatment", "Zeppelin", etc. The sound is clean, obviously taken from the original master tapes. It's a joy to hear Budd's great music once again, now available to the public after Mr. Budd's untimely death in August of 1993. If you like Lalo Schifrin(Mission:Impossible, Dirty Harry, Enter the Dragon, etc.), you'll love Roy Budd. I highly recommend "Rebirth of the Budd". It's a must for any movie soundtrack fanatic!!"
Top jazzlounge here!

"Afer having scored all Roy Budd jazzcrime CDs
(see more about me) I wanted more of this man's music.
I came upon this mainly loungejazz one
(only 'Fear is the key', 'Get Carter' & 'Plaything'
are crimejazz tracks here) Some tracks sounds average
or slippery but ther are some real finds on this CD:
The a-side of his fist 7" 'Birth of the Budd' from 1965.
The a-side of the 7" 'Theme from Mr. Rose investigates'
(Granada TV SERIES from 1967)
Two lovely lounge/kitsch tracks: 'In my hole' and
'Too much attention' from his LP
-The music of Gilbert O'Sullivan- from 1973.
The haunting tune from 'The Carey Treatment' from 1972.
The superb loungjazz track 'Girl talk' from his 1967
-Pick Yourself Up!!! This Is Roy Budd- LP.
One of the tunes very well done: 'Pavane' from the
-Lean On- LP from 1969 is my favorite.
Two latin tracks from the 1970 LP -Budd 'n' Bossa-
'Baraquinho' and 'So nice' with such beautiful flute playing
making these tunes very special.
'Lust' a real jazz one from
-The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins- soundtrack (1971)
'Whizz ball' also a great real jazz one.
The rest is just O.K. so with only one lousy track:
'Fields of green, skies of blue' (why oh why is this one here?)
this is a GREAT CD to buy. Actually, I'm so glad I bought this
one I don't known why I hesitated at first hearing, must be the
very common tunes..."
This CD is excellent !
