CD Reviews

Top-flight Clooney
Michael J. McVay | 02/24/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is my favorite Clooney CD from the Concord Jazz Series. The selection of songs, the pacing, and the arrangements are all impeccable. Any Place I Hang My Hat is Home receives definitive treatment, as does Dream combined with Hit the Road to Dreamland. Talk to Me Baby never sounded better. Clooney has great fun with GI Jive, Hooray for Hollywood, and Goody Goody. I Remember You is refreshingly done slowly with guitar accompaniment only. There is even a haunting newer song written by Barry Manilow and Mercer, When October Goes. I only wish that Clooney's version of Fools Rush In could be placed here somewhere. It was recorded later for the soundtrack to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, another wonderful collection of Johnny Mercer songs by various artists including Diana Krall, Joe Williams, kd lang, and even Kevin Spacey!"
ROSIE AT HER BEST

"Our huckleberry friend would be happy to hear that great tribute from ROSIE.Her heart warming voice does wonders with songs like WHEN OCTOBER GOES and I REMEMBER YOU.I personally would have appreciated if she had made another cd of JOHNNY's songs(after all, he wrote overa thousand)But as it is, its perfect and can match ELLA,s 1964 tribute album all the way.JOHNNY MERCER wasn't really a cowhand from the rio grande ,but he was a true AMERICAN who really loved his country. So what are you waiting?rise up of your seat and get that album,or get it by mail with AMAZON if you can't walk."
ROSIE IS DEFINETLY THE SUPERSTAR WE HAVE COME TO EXPECT

"I have followed Rosies' career for many years. It seems that every year she gets beter and better. This cd is a very good cd. She sings her songs in a very entertaning manner. This cd has the songs of Johnny Mercer, that's good. The only regret i have about this cd, is that Rosie didn't choose more hit songs by Johnny. John Oddo, Rosies' musical director, did a great job on the arrangements. I would strongly recommend this cd."
