A seamless song cycle powered by producer Craig Zurba s polished studio magic, (Ranger is also credited for additional production.), Replies showcases the Vancouver singer-songwriter s pop-perfect, silky, soulful rasp. Zurba, who has added soundboard alchemy to recordings by Aaron Pritchett and Lisa Brokop contributes to Replies addictive, hook-driven mix on an assortment of instruments, joining a host of Vancouver stalwarts drawn from the city s vibrant jazz, blues and rock scenes... and Ranger does the rest. The young musician contributes an eclectic collection of originals plus a couple of smart remakes of hook-addled hits by Zurba s old band, Agent and the Australian pop band, Eurogliders. Some songs kick like a mule, and with Ranger s ranging vocals seem tailor-made for arena stages. Others ride Zurba s subtle arrangements and the whispered, emotive cries that punctuate Ranger s most stunning performances. Before turning to music, Ranger studied theatre at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and with the Capilano College Theatre Company in Vancouver, and her vocals combine thoughtful, understatement and dramatic, soul-revealing power. I explored other arts, primarily dance and acting, but I've always had a passion for singing and writing, Ranger explains. I feel that music is the most powerful medium in our culture, because it is a universal language. Music has the ability to move us into our hearts and out of our fears.
