Synopsis

Product Description
Typhanie Monique and Neal Alger have been performing their brand of soul-infused jazz for over six years now. Spawned from a weekly residency at Chicago's famed jazz venue Pops for Champagne, the duo has carefully honed their groove-oriented versions of jazz standards, pop/rock songs, and material from the R&B/Soul genre. While some of the duo's music has emerged spontaneously, as in the original composition "I Don't Care", tunes like "Wonderful" have relied more on craftsmanship and subtle reworkings. Whether the song is old or new, played off-the-cuff or tightly arranged, however, all of them contain a strong undercurrent of groove and soul which gives Typhanie and Neal's duo a distinctive musical personality within the jazz world. Intrinsic, their first release, has enjoyed airplay in every major city and music critics have unanimously given it high ratings. In support of Intrinsic, Typhanie and Neal have performed in New York City, San Francisco, Denver, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, and many other cities throughout the country. Armed with a varied repertoire and a stage persona that exudes intimacy, the duo appeals to long-time jazz lovers as well as younger audiences that enjoy the contemporary material. Indeed, the vibrant music created by the duo on their brand new 2nd release In This Room will persuade you to occupy their unique space and feel welcome.

Great Spin On Jazz
Adam J. Franklin | Chicago, IL | 03/02/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Typhanie Monique and Neal Alger play an eclectic group of songs on "In This Room," and really have something for everyone here. "Never Can Say Goodbye" is such a cool tune (my fav), but these two take it to a new level, with their feel good approach and jazzy spin that they put on this number. "Caravan" brings the funk and has some swanky scatting that'll make your ears perk up and listen from the get go! Another sweet, upbeat listen is the tune "Beautiful Love," which really gives Monique a chance to show off her pipes! This is type of LP you can throw on for a dinner party and have people ask "Who/what is this?" I like to play this on my Ipod in the kitchen while my wife cooks and I keep her company:) It can be a romantic listen as well, maybe over a nice meal and a good bottle of wine. Whatever the situation, this LP gives cause to listen. Also of note, Monique is an integral part of the local Chicago jazz scene, so if you live in the vicinity, be on the lookout for one of her many incarnations."
