The Ghost of Elvis
10/29/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"An outstanding tribute. Sounds like a cut off the Elvis originals. Spookie to say the least. You don't need Elvis impersonators when Ronnie McDowell sings. Almost like Elvis singing through him. Great piece of work."
A Tribute Fit For The King

"As an unadulterated Elvis fan, Ronnie McDowell had a dream come true recording with former Elvis band members, such as, Scotty Moore (guitar), D.J. Fontana (drums) and the Jordanaires (background vocals). Ronnie doesn't try to "be" Elvis, he simply covers some great songs, in his own way, that are monuments to the King's career. He sounds more pop than rock, and doesn't have the vocal range of Elvis, but there's nothing wrong with that. He just enjoys singing his heart out for the King and his fans. He truly sings the ballads with the proper sensitivity and sings the rock songs with enough gutteral force to make each song a special treat. Some of the stand out songs are "Baby, Let's Play House," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Treat Me Nice," "One Broken Heart For Sale" and an updated rendition of "Love Me Tender" that includes some of the lyrics in Spanish. What makes this album a great tribute is the bookend presentation of "The King Is Gone" and "Tupelo's Too Far." These songs pay lyrical homage to the King and superbly fit the entire tone of the album. Elvis would have been greatly pleased with this loving tribute and so will his fans."

"Over the years...I've listened to many Tributes to Elvis, this is the very best. Ronnie has put all his respect, emotions and love for Elvis into this CD. Although many of us associate them with each other..........Ronnie is his own person..his music is fantastic, his concerts are captivating,he takes time for his fans and we love Ronnie.Take the time...get to know the man."
