CD Reviews

Ronnie Lane was the heart and soul of the (Small) Faces.

"This was a welcome addition to my Ronnie Lane collection on CD. Much of this material I already had on other releases, but the live tracks and bonus disc made this a must have purchase for fans of the late Faces bassist. My only complaint: Couldn't licensing problems have been resolved to include "Annie" from the Townsend/Lane collaboration "Rough Mix" from 1977?It's too bad Ronnie's music wasn't readily available on CD prior to his death from MS in 1997. However, Pilot has been doing an excellent job of making up for this over the past two years. As a forty-something music fan, I can only concur with Ronnie when he sang, "I wish that I knew all I know now, when I was younger." Now, go out and buy all of Lane's music you can--you owe it to your heart and to the memory of an amazingly talented artist."
This "boxed set" is not a boxed set.

"This "April Fool" CD is exactly the same CD as the U.S. release of the "April Fool" CD. The two CDs are identical, so why pay more for the import?"

"This 2 CD set presents an excellent overview of the long and varied career of Ronnie Lane. Those familiar with Ronnie will welcome the alternate versions of songs, and newcomers are in for a treat. From his paislied mod soul belting days with the Small Faces, through the raucous mayhem of The Faces to Slim Chance rustic crooner and back again this man wore his huge heart on his sleeve. You'll laugh, you'll cry ,(all kidding aside,if Debris does'nt move ya,check your pulse),and you"ll be happy you spent some time with a man taken away far too early. Standout cuts for me are:1. the aforementioned Debris,a live version by one of Ronnies later bands of the old Faces ballad. 2.A live version of Ooh La La with Slim Chance that just ... 3. One For The Road also with Slim Chance. It occurs to me that I could easily exceed my 1,000 word limit singing the praises of this album so let me just say it's one of the most enjoyable CD's I've had the pleasure to listen to in a long long time.Ronnie, laddie, wherever you are, thank you, and have one on me."
