CD Reviews

EXCELLENT SOLO ALBUM FROM HELLOWEEN GUITARIST!!!
09/03/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"WOW! This is truly a great album. When I heard Mr. Grapow's "4 Seasons of life"-album, I was very disapointed. His songwriting in Helloween has always been great but he must have had a bad day when he wrote "4 Seasons...". HOWEVER! This album turned out to be written on a good day. A VERY good day. He has chosen to work with the greatest voice in the hard rock/heavy metal genre: MICHAEL VESCERA (ex Obssesion, Loudness, Yngwie Malmsteen), who, like always, do a perfect job. Mr. Grapow has acctually the same lineup as Yngwie Malmsteen had on the "7th Sign"-album, apart from the Keyboards which are played by his fellow countryman, Freddy Doernberg. Jens Johansson (ex Yngwie, Dio. Currently in Stratovarius) also appears on the Keyboards on two tracks.Mr. Grapow has written songs of pure excellence here. The Style is quite hard to describe, but it's somewhere in the vicinity of Yngwie Malmsteen, Helloween, Rainbow. To put it short: HEAVENLY MELODY, YET HEAVY AS HELL. Thank you Mr. Grapow. Thank you."
Are we talking about the same album???

"I'm a HUGE Helloween fan, and I've always liked Roland's playing and songwriting. I bought this album based on these reviews, even though I never liked the singer's voice when he was with Malmsteen...now I remember why. This guy has taken what would have been a great metal album and turned it into something very cheesy....he sounds like he wants to be the singer for Journey. If that's the type of sound you like then I guess you'll like this album, but I think his voice ruins the album. Someone wrote that he's the best singer of his genre??? Uhh...ever hear of Bruce Dickinson? Rob Halford? Michael Kiske? Even Don Dokken has a much better metal voice. I feel bad giving a negative review because I like Roland and wish him success, but he needs a new singer."
