"Bittersweet melodies wrap themselves around Roddy's haunting lyrics. His best offering since his masterpiece Knife. Thrilling."
Less is more, in this case, the pinnacle

"If you're like me, the first time you heard Roddy Frame was as the leader of Aztec Camera on "High Land, Hard Rain". Obviously, this pulled you in, but you were disappointed in the unevenness of the next few Aztec Camera albums. The quality of "Frestonia" and "Dreamland" reaffirmed your belief in the quality of Frame's musical vision, as these were quite strong CDs. And while Aztec Camera was always just a group name for Roddy Frame's vision, you may have lost sight of him over the last decade.

If you are wondering if this CD is worth purchasing, this is his best work in my opinion. It exceeds everything he did as Aztec Camera and it is the best of his solo work, so far. The entire album focuses on his vocals and guitar. Both are very expressive. My favorite song is "High Class Music", but there is not a bad song in the bunch. This is a CD that can be played as perfect background music while working, but also if you listen the emotive vocals will have you convinced. As far as his solo work goes, I like this one the best, followed by "Western Skies" and then "North Star", but they are all pretty high level music.

I believe this to be money well spent."
