CD Reviews

In A Perfect World, they'd still be a band...

"One of the reviewers below me mentioned attending a concert where only the lead vocalist was present. Unfortunately, this is due to the fact that the band has split up and the other members have gone on to other things (such as starting families, which I suppose may be a worthwhile pursuit). But pre-breakup, .rod Laver put on an excellent, energetic live show with lots of creativity, humor, and hard-to-beat talent. I should know, I've seen them live 5 times. That aside, let's get to the review of the CD.For one thing, it's daring. Songs range from a critique of society's focus on externals and body image to a rant in favor of gun control and references to Charlton Heston and Planet of the Apes. Make sure you check out the song "Time Pieces," my personal favorite track--it's lots of fun and you're sure to appreciate the catchy chorus. If you have a chance to pick up the promotional pre-release, there's a cover of Faith No More's "Epic" that's worth your time. Musically, this CD is on the aggressive side but there are some softer moments. Particularly the song Two Karats and My Color Rose slow things down for quiet reminiscing. Don't do yourself the disservice of classifying this in the wannabe Linkin Park/Limp Bizkit category. Yes, it's a combination of rap and rock. But the talent is here, and they've been doing this long before anyone else caught on to the trend. Lots of originality and challenging lyrics add to the picture of what music should sound like In A Perfect World."

"these guys totally rock!!! i would describe them as gangsta-rapcore because the vocalist delivers harsh vocals and the musical backdrop is hard and heavy. the vocalist can also sing. some of the songs on this new album are a little mellower than their past albums, but the music is still awesome. i personally think this is their best album to date. if you're into p.o.d., project 86, linkin park, etc. check these guys out!!!"
