CD Reviews

This guide is a must!
11/10/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For starters each species is a separate track on the CD, not a piece of a track. At last, a recording of Mountain Plover vocalizations (not on Peterson Western). At last, too, Fox Sparrow songs that resemble the ones I hear around here. The full range of songs/calls of the Cordilleran Flycatcher.Several features will be a great help to me in deciphering such things as Dusky vs. Hammond's flycatcher, woodpecker and sapsucker drummings, bluebirds, and so on, that I've had a hard time sorting out during my limited field time -- the longer sequences per species, more calls than the Peterson Western guide, recordings of birds actually in the west, and especially the thorough written descriptions of songs and calls including comparisons of similar species. Great stuff!I've hesitated to spring for some of the other more comprehensive guides other than Birding by Ear and Peterson, like Stokes etc. but this one was a must!"
