CD Reviews

ELEGANT ELECTRONICS!
Ståle Tandberg | Norway | 03/31/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Night full of tension" is Robert Gorls first solo album. In the beginning of 80`s he had to compete with bands like depeche mode, yazoo, human league, ultravox etc..on the english synth arena. That`s because he signed london based Mute Records. As an old synth-fan from that time, this album stands out like one of the best synth albums of the 80`s!! He started off with the 7" "mit dir" wich was a emotional daf-like piece. On this album he really show you what a true synthesizer wizard he is! Songs like "playtime","I love me","love in mind","wind in hair" shows his elegant electronics at the best. The singles from this album "mit dir" & "darling don`t leave me" are great tracks too! Annie Lennox appears on two of the tracks, and she sings "Charlie Cat"! The tracks "aist wieder da","beruhrt verfuhrt","eckhardts party"Mit Dir" and darling don`t leave me(extended) are bonus tracks prior to the LP! these songs are singles, back sides and 12"-bonus tracks! enjoy yourself with a journey through the electronic world of Robert Gorl...."
Sterling and Smooth Synths

"Wow! I grew up 20 years ago listening to Robert Gorl duet with Annie Lennox on "Darling Don't Leave Me," which received extensive play on Los Angeles progressive radio station KROQ. I even purchased the 12-inch vinyl single which had the extended version of the song. I've heard about this particular CD for many years, and have been unable to find it until very recently, happening by chance on a listing on Amazon for an available copy. The songs are smoothly evocative of the 80's synth scene, well suited to both Robert's and Annie's vocal styles. Annie sings background on many songs, and sings "Charlie Cat" and basically duets with Robert on "Darling Don't Leave Me," a gem (see intro sentence above). You'll love the bonus 5 songs, which include the extended version of "Darling Don't Leave Me" and "Mit Dir," which was a b-side and didn't appear on the original album. If you see this CD available on Amazon, you should definitely get it for your collection. You won't be disappointed. Prepare yourself for a trip back to the 80's of extended synth lines and cool blue vocals."
ANNIE LENNOX GOES DAF - brilliant but OOP! Elektra reissue!!
G. Mitchell | Los Angeles, CA United States | 11/28/2004

"I bought this LP went it first came out in the early 80s just as Eurythmics was breaking in America - this could be considered by some to even be an Annie Lennox solo album, since DAF's ROBERT GORL is fronted by ANNIE LENNOX on many tracks, including the brilliant icy, Teutonic electro dance of DARLING DON'T LEAVE ME, CHARLIE CAT, PLAYTIME, and more - Robert Gorl's creative peak as far as I'm concerned, even tops a lot of their of DAF stuff for sheer consistency...BUT...WHY doesn't ELEKTRA re-issue this CD so we can all enjoy it now? Labels listen up - there is a big audience for this cult lost album, please release it on CD!! if not for them, for ME!"
