Full Length's eclecticism is similar to Marshall's, with Robert dipping into popabilly that stakes tent space somewhere between Ricky Nelson and a low-tech Cars sound ("All I Want to Do Is Be with You," "She's Not You"); Bacharach stylings (a cover of "This Guy's in Love with You" as well as the brothers' own "Everyone's in Love with You") and an atmospheric singer-songwriter moment ("When the Rain Comes Down") help him make a broader claim. CD ReviewsPromising Start Eric Collins | Fairlawn, OH United States | 08/09/2001 (3 out of 5 stars) "Robert Crenshaw's debut album is well worth a listen. Best-known in the past as drummer for his brother, Marshall, Robert steps out and shows himself to possess formidable songwriting ability, and he's particularly adept at writing strong "climbs" and bridges. His voice is reminiscent of his brother's and of Buddy Holly's, and while his range is somewhat limited, he knows how to build a good production with plenty of harmonies to support the lead vocal. His style alternates between "popabilly" and Burt Bacharach-type pop, but there are occasional rocking moments, such as the "rip it up, boys"-charged break in "She's Not You." Oddly, the drums occasionally seem "out of pocket," as if he were concentrating too much on being the vocalist/writer and neglecting some of his stickman chops. Finally, for an album with "Full Length" in its title, this CD is just a little lean. I would have preferred two more three more originals in place of "This Guy's In Love With You," though the latter is worth a chuckle for the line "they say you think I'm fine...so do I!" All in all, a promising start to Robert's solo career." Great songs you can sing along and groove to!
