When the 'Fifties Had Charm...

"In these recordings from 1955 and 1956, Robert Clary begins by channeling Charles Trenet--it's a witty tribute--but soon gets into his stride, putting his own stamp on songs by Rodgers and Hart (Have You Met Miss Jones, A Ship Without a Sail), Harold Arlen( the scarecrow's song from Wizard of Oz, and a sensous arrangement of Out of This World) and possibly the best arrangement yet of Bart Howard's Let Me Love You, that song-requirement of every

stylish singer of the period from Lena to Mabel to Bobby to Blossom to Portia to Morgana..the list goes on and one could likely compile an album entitled Variations on Let Me Love You. There are 26 songs here and all ,or nearly all ,are delightful. It is a sort of time capsule of a certain approach,

so if you care to turn back the clock to another era......"
